Despite making a great start to the VELUX EHF Champions League, SG Flensburg-Handewitt’s Anders Eggert is refusing to take anything for granted

No rest for Flensburg

On Sunday SG Flensburg-Handewitt played in León. Then on Monday the team boarded buses and airplanes. On Tuesday morning they trained, before boarded the bus again to head off for a German Cup clash. Despite the tight schedule, 30-year-old Dane Anders Eggert took time out to talk to ehfCL.com about his high-scoring feats so far this season.

ehfCL.com: You have just drawn 29:29 at Reale Ademar León. Were you satisfied with that?
Anders Eggert: We are still disappointed, even if the result was fair. With our last touch we almost got the win. But we should’ve had the win in the bag before then. We have a better quality squad, but just didn’t prove it.

ehfCL.com: What do you think about the atmosphere in León? The Palacio Municipal de los Deportes is supposed to be a boiling cauldron.
Anders Eggert: The hall wasn´t sold out, but at kick-off the noise was tremendous. We had heard about this beforehand, and so it proved.

ehfCL.com: Do you know how the scoring charts in the VELUX EHF Champions League looks like?
Anders Eggert: No, because I haven´t looked.

ehfCL.com: Hans Lindberg from HSV Hamburg leads, and you are behind him. Is goal-scoring strictly a Danish profession?!
Anders Eggert: I don´t know [smiles]. I think that has more to do with the fact that we both take the penalties, and play in teams which are already scoring many goals. It is of course nice to score often, but it's more important to win. And this didn´t work on Sunday.

ehfCL.com: In November Hans Lindberg will be your opponent twice. Does that hold a special attraction?
Anders Eggert: It is always interesting to play in another country against a compatriot. But there will only be a brief greeting before the game, because then we get down to business as we both want to win with our teams.

ehfCL.com: Will the next two games against Hamburg decide who wins Group A in the VELUX EHF Champions League?
Anders Eggert: It's still a little early to say that. We haven´t even completed half of the group stage. In any case it is important to be successful in Hamburg in order to maintain our chance of winning the group - and we know that a win is possible if we play at 100 per cent.
