Snorroeggen to miss EHF EURO 2012

Big blow to Norway's build up to Serbia as playmaker puts health first

Another Norwegian to miss EHF EURO 2012

Only a few days after Norwegian goalkeeper Kari Aalvik Grimsbø had to give up on the EHF Women´s EURO 2012 due to pregnancy, Norway´s national coach Thorir Hergeirsson has to realise that he will have to make do without another important player for Serbia in December.

The experienced playmaker Gøril Snorroeggen has decided to give priority to her health and is going to stay at home, a choice which Hergeisson characterises as “a mature decision.”

27 year old Snorroeggen has been suffering from a heel injury for some time, but last week she celebrated her comeback for Danish league club Team Esbjerg in their 37-17 win away against Slagelse.

Nevertheless, she does not feel up to the physical challenge of playing the EURO2012.

“I have been thinking about this for some time, but it feels good to have made my decision, although I feel sad about missing the EURO.

“However, I have to focus on becoming completely fit, and I have felt that this was the right decision,” Gøril Snorroeggen told the Norwegian newspaper Adresseavisen.

National coach Thorir Hergeirsson has accepted her decision.

“We have been in touch about this during the entire month of October, but in the end it was up to Gøril.”

“She knows what it takes to become fit. She needs peace and quiet and to retrain”, Hergeirsson said.

Apart from Grimsbø and Snorroeggen Norway will also be missing right back Amanda Kurtovic who is has been sidelined with a shoulder injury since late August.
