THW Kiel line player injured in test match with Danish national team

Toft Hansen out for at least six weeks

Defending VELUX EHF Champions League winners THW Kiel will have to replace Rene Toft Hansen (28) in the upcoming weeks. The line player, who arrived from AG København before this season, was severely injured in a test match with the Danish national team against Argentina on Saturday.

As the German club announced the Dane has broken his left clavicle and a rib when hit by an Argentine player. “I am really sad about this injury,“ Toft Hansen was quoted on the THW website, “as now the big matches are coming. I just had settled down in my new team. The Danish doctors said that I might be able to return in six weeks, if the healing process runs perfectly.”

Fortunately for THW, which will re-start their Group Phase with a match at Pivovarna Laško Celje on 17 November, they have two more options for this position: team captain Markus Ahlm and newcomer Patrick Wiencek. “I am confident that both will be able to fill the gap,” THW manager Klaus Elwardt said.
