Montenegrin Lasica joins Pick Szeged
After two and a half seasons with Spanish club BM Cangas Frigoríficos del Morrazo, Marko Lasica has moved club and country.
The Montenegrin right wing signed a three and half year contract with VELUX EHF Champions League participant Pick Szeged who finished runners-up in last season’s Hungarian league.
"I arrived in Szeged in order to sign a contract until the end of the season, as was agreed with my manager. However, after only three training sessions, Pick Szeged offered me a three and a half year contract.
“I accepted and I think that I will not regret it, because Pick Szeged is a great club with big ambition every season.
“There are some very good Hungarian players in the team, alongside great foreign players such as (Jonas Erik) Larholm, (Frantisek) Sulc and (Rajko) Prodanović.
"In addition, it’s a great opportunity for me, because Pick Szeged play in the VELUX EHF Champions League, and I think it’s a big deal. That was the main reason I chose this club above the several other offers," explained Lasica.
The two parties reached an agreement in December, while the contract was signed on Wednesday, 9 January, as it was announced by the Hungarian club.
"I believe that I’ll help the team to win the double in Hungary and secure a place in the Last 16 of the VELUX EHF Champions League.
"My new teammates have done great things so far, and one win in the remaining three rounds is enough to qualify for the Last 16," added Lasica.
Pick lie fourth in Group D and have a one point advantage over fifth place HC Croatia Osiguranje Zagreb.
24-year-old Lasica began his career in at home in Nikšić, with the local club Sutjeska, which was followed by spells at prestigious Montenegrin clubs Lovćen and Budućnost, where he won the Montenegrin championship in 2010.
In the summer of 2010, Lasica left Budućnost and went to Spain, joining BM Cangas Frigoríficos del Morrazo, a team who last season were promoted to Spain’s top division, the Asobal league.
"I am sorry that I will not finish the season in Spain, but I had to think about my future. It was a pleasure to play against teams in the Asobal league, but the financial situation at the club is extremely difficult. Pick Szeged came up with offer I couldn’t refuse," Lasica concluded.
Marko Lasica will join his new club after the 2013 World Championship in Spain, where he will be competing with Montenegro’s national team.
