Hand injury rules Jurkiewicz out for two months
Mariusz Jurkiewicz is set to be out of action for about two months after suffering an injury to his right hand.
The BM Atlético Madrid right back picked up the hand injury during the World Championship in Spain, while playing for Poland against Saudi Arabia.
Jurkiewicz tried to continue playing, but the pain was too much to bear, and he was forced to leave the court.
Further examinations in hospital revealed he suffered a broken metacarpal bone. Jurkiewicz will also be examined in his club, where treatment will be continued.
The 31 year-old will miss not only the next VELUX EHF Champions League match in Madrid against Celje Pivovarna Lasko, but the other two remaining matches in Group B, where Atlético lie in third place, two points ahead of places four to six.
“Injures occur quite often and we have to get used to them. They are a part of professional sport.
“Unfortunately it happened to me during such an important tournament for my team and I,” Jurkiewicz was quoted on the Polish Handball Federation's website.
