Injury rules out Štrlek
Manuel Štrlek is set to be out for two months, after suffering an injury to his right hand.
The KS Vive Targi Kielce left wing picked up the hand injury during the ongoing World Championship in Spain, while playing for Croatia against the host nation.
Immediately after the match, Manuel Štrlek was taken to hospital in Madrid, where further examinations revealed he suffered a broken metacarpal bone. Štrlek travelled back to Croatia, for treatment to be continued.
The 25-year-old will miss Kielce’s remaining three matches in the VELUX EHF Champions League Group Phase, Štrlek has scored 19 goals in seven games so far in the competition. The Polish club are currently leading Group C, with a 100 percent record after seven wins from seven.
KS Vive Targi Kielce club director Radosław Wasiak explained the situation to Polish media.
“He underwent the operation in Zagreb. Fortunately, there were no complications after surgery," he said.
“A regular person would probably not need this kind of treatment, but in the case of an athlete, it is necessary.”
