EHF Cup participants Elverum snap up right back Iso Sluijters

Elverum sign Dutch international

Norwegian EHF Cup participants Elverum HH have signed Dutch international Iso Sluijters for the rest of this season.

The 22 year-old right back will replace Lazo Majnov in the Elverum squad, who is sidelined with a torn chest muscle and may be out of action for the rest of the season.

Last season, Sluijters played for San Antonio in the Spanish Liga Asobal. After their withdrawal from the league due to financial reasons, Sluijters decided to go home to the Netherlands despite interest from several German Bundesliga clubs.

However, the offer from Elverum, who are currently in second place in the Norwegian league, was too tempting, so now the 192cm tall player and his girlfriend have moved to Norway.

“From what we have seen, Iso is going to be a considerable reinforcement to our team and a reassuring stand-in for Lazo Majnov.

“I am sure that he will also mean a lot to us when the EHF Cup group matches start next month,” Elverum´s head coach Christian Berge told eurohandball.com.

“At this point I will definitely not rule out the possibility that we may want to extend his contract, when it expires at the end of the season, if both sides are still happy with the arrangement when that time comes,” Berge added.

Elverum are in Group C of the EHF Cup group phase, where their first oppponent will be Polish team Orlen Wisla Plock at home on 10 February.

The other two teams in their group are Team Tvis Holstebro from Denmark, and RK Maribor Branik from Slovenia.
