Baur to coach Schaffhausen next season
Just days after failing to progress from the VELUX EHF Champions League Group Phase, Kadetten Schaffhausen presented their concept for a successful future, including the hiring of Markus Baur as coach.
Baur, who lives close to the Swiss border, will coach the Swiss champions from the next season on.
Baur currently is and will remain coach of the German men’s junior team, which will defend their title at the World Championship in Bosnia Herzegovina this July.
Previously, Baur had been coach at German Bundesliga clubs Lemgo and N-Lübecke.
In his playing career, Baur was team captain of the 2007 World Championship and the EHF EURO 2004 winning teams, he was also a silver medallist at the 2004 Olympics, the EHF EURO 2001, and 2003 World Championship.
As he still is engaged with the German Handball Federation, Baur will be assisted by a staff of additional coaches in Schaffhausen, led by Urs Schärer, former player and playing coach at Kadetten.
“It is our aim to become Swiss champion and to qualify for the Last 16 in the VELUX EHF Champions League in the next season,” Baur said during his presentation in Schaffhausen.
22-year-old Swiss international, Thomas Herr, is the first signing for next season as Baur looks to build a team which is capable of competing at the highest level.
“Kadetten have huge quality in their squad, this was one reason, why I joined this club.
“It is a very good base to be part of the VELUX EHF Champions League. It is my major aim to increase the level and to develop the team,” concluded Baur.
