Holstebro sign Danish talent

Young right back moves from Aarhus Håndbold

Holstebro sign Danish talent

Team Tvis Holstebro, who may secure their access to the EHF Cup quarter-finals on Sunday, 24 March also have great ambitions for the future.

The club, currently lying fifth in the Danish league, have signed a two year contract with one of the greatest talents at the right back position in Denmark, Simon Birkefeldt who is joining from league colleagues Aarhus Håndbold.

“I have got a really good impression of the training environment in Holstebro. I love to train, and it appeals to me that there are trainings in the morning as well as at noon,” 22-year-old Birkefeldt explained in an official statement.

Simon Birkefeldt joined Aarhus in 2010 from another Danish league club, Skanderborg Håndbold, but even though Aarhus have qualified for the championship play-offs, his ambitions go further than that.

“I have had a good time in Aarhus, but I am looking forward to the new challenges under Klavs Bruun Jørgensen (Team Tvis Holstebro´s head coach) Being a former right back himself, he can teach me a lot,” explained Birkefeldt.

“This is a player who is in the squad for the national team already, and who has the potential to become a profile on the right back in the national team in the future,” Team Tvis Holstebro´s sports director Niels Agesen said.

“In spite of his young age he is extremely focused, dedicated and ambitious, and with those qualities he fits perfectly into our environment,” added Agesen.

A home win against Orlen Wisla Plock from Poland on Sunday could see Team Tvis Holstebro qualify for the quarter-finals in this season’s EHF Cup depending on results elsewhere.
