Momir Ilić leaves THW KielAfter four years and two trophies in the VELUX EHF Champions League, Momir Ilić leaves defending champions THW Kiel. The contract of the 31 year old Serbian international had not been extended, as the club announced on their website. “We had given Momir an offer for a new two year contract, but we could not agree,” said THW manager Klaus Elwardt. As mentioned in a press release the decision to go separate ways after this season had already been taken in December 2012. “We wanted to lighten his way to a new club, so we waited with the announcement, but now the time has come,” Elwardt said. "Of course there is melancholy, when you leave a team after in total seven titles in four years. I had a great time at Kiel, and I hope we will win some more titles before I leave. I have to be thankful for THW and especially coach Alfred Gislason for what I experienced here,” Serbian left back said. After the “Ilić decision” the personnel plans for the upcoming season are completed, said Elwardt: “All gaps which were open, had been filled with Johan Sjöstrand, Wael Jallouz and Rasmus Lauge Schmidt.” Besides Ilić, whose new club is currently unknown, Thierry Omeyer (Montpellier), Daniel Narcisse (Paris) and Marcus Ahlm (end of career) leave THW. “We will start a process of rejuvenation now,” said Elwardt.
After winning their Bundesliga match at N-Lübeckke on Wednesday, Ilić unveiled his future plans to German TV station Sport 1. “I am negotiating with Rhein Neckar Löwen and MKB Veszprém.” And the Hungarian powerhouse is the upcoming VELUX EHF Champions League quarter-final opponent of THW from Sunday on.
