“We played the perfect match the day we needed to"

Statements after the first leg of the VELUX EHF Champions League Quarter-finals

“We played the perfect match the day we needed so," Cañellas said

Albert Rocas look very dissapointed alter the match against Atlético Madrid. Not only this was the second defeat of all the season but also endangers the possibility of reaching the VELUX EHF FINAL4.

“We came here with the idea of coming to Vistalegre and winning, because we were in a very positive moment and this is an important setback for us. We have not played to our best: lost too many attacks, shot a few times on goal, which is not what we are used to… it just wasn’t our day.”

Regarding the second leg, Albert said: “now it is time to rely on the Palau Blaugrana and its magic moments. I hope it does not happen like last year when we could not turn around the double header against Copenhagen”.

“The best thing we get from today is after a disaster game we still have possibilities. We need to recover 5 goals, probably six, and we will need all the support from our fans. Playing next Saturday at home will help us to get back 2 or 3 goals so still we need to get another few”.

One word to define Joan Cañellas after the match is tired. The left back seemed exhausted after another fantastic display of handball he performed today. He ended top scorer for the Madrid team as well as Lazarov, with 6 goals apiece.

“We played the perfect match the day we needed so. We have showed to many people who disbelieved that we could do it and here we are. Not many people expected us to play like this. We have 5 goals difference but hopefully they will be six if we play good next Saturday”.

“The more matches we play the more we know each other. In the end we play 6 or 7 times in a season and we need to be innovating. In this case we have been very aggressive and it has paid out.”

“In any case we need to be very concentrated now, as the second match away will be crucial and everything we have done today can be lost in five minutes.”
