Damgaard's suspension confirmed by Court of Appeal

The EHF Court of Appeal confirmed the one-match ban for Michael Damgaard Nielsen on Friday, which means the left back will miss the semi-final match of his Team Tvis Holstebro against HBC Nantes at the EHF Cup Finals.

Disciplinary proceedings were opened against Damgaard Nielsen after the best scorer of Holstebro and the fifth best scorer of this EHF Cup season (44 goals) received a direct disqualification in the 59th minute of his team’s quarter-final match against KIF Kolding on 28 April 2013.

The panel of the EHF Court of Handball found that the action of a Michael Damgaard Nielsen was an unsportsmanlike conduct deserving further sanction. A one match suspension was imposed on the player, on the basis of article B.1 of the EHF List of Penalties.

The club Team Tvis Holstebro filed an appeal against the decision of the EHF Court of Handball. The EHF Court of Appeal decided to reject the appeal and upheld the first instance decision.

Holstebro will take on Nantes on Saturday, 18 May at 15:45 hrs local time in Palais des Sports de Beaulieu, Nantes. In the second semi-final the winners of the former EHF Cup Frisch Auf Göppingen will face their bundesliga rivals Rhein Neckar Löwen at 18:00 hrs local time.
