EHF Photo project

10,000 pictures, 100,000 Euro

EHF Photo project

Photographers Fabian Bimmer, Axel Heimken, Philipp Gülland and Manuel Ferrigato alongside editor Wiebke Mücke are all based in Hamburg but find themselves in Cologne this weekend as the official VELUX EHF FINAL4 Photography Team.

They will provide up to 10,000 pictures from the weekend and in order to accomplish this mission every photographer is using three different types of cameras, complete with five to six lenses. Each photographer will carry around 15-20kg of equipment worth more than 20,000 euro each.

Alongside their equipment the photographers have special additional permission to access the playing court and other areas of the LANXESS arena normally off-limits to enable them to fully document the event for the EHF.

As well as the key job of taking photos of the four matches, the team have been all around Cologne capturing the numerous events that now make up the ‘Highlight of European Club Handball.’

“Believe it or not, this is not just a big handball event to photograph, but for photographers it is a big event to photography generally,” said Heimken.

“We are also using wireless technology at the VELUX EHF FINAL4 for the first time,” he explained. “When we were taking photographs at the Jack & Jones store for the autograph session all we had to do was press a button in our pocket after the shutter release and it was then transmitted to the server.

“The whole event has been great for us as a team and we are all looking forward to the final,” he concluded.

Fans who want to see the results of the photographers work should visit the ‘Photo Gallery’ section of the VELUX EHF FINAL4 website HERE.

For the first time, EHF Marketing GmbH has edited a season review book where you will be able to see more photos from the photography team.

Relive the highlights of the 20th season of the VELUX EHF Champions League through the book which will take you on an incredibly powerful handball journey.
