HSV keep the party going in HamburgNewly crowned VELUX EHF Champions League winners HSV Hamburg were back in action on Wednesday evening for their final home match of the season in the German Bundesliga. HSV took on TBV Lemgo and secured a 34:31 win in front of 9,180 excited spectators. Stefan Schröder and Domagoj Duvnjak were the top scorers for Hamburg on the night with six goals each. The VELUX EHF Champions League trophy was suspended from the ceiling of the O2 World Hamburg and presented with pyrotechnics, a fitting tribute to the team’s achievements only three days before, when they defeated FC Barcelona 30:29 after extra time in Cologne’s LANXESS arena. After the game ended the ceremony began with a farewell to four players who will be leaving the club this summer: Igor Vori, Michael Kraus, Fredrik Petersen and Stefan Terzic. “We will see each other again. I’m sure we’ll meet in the Champions League next year,” said Vori during his speech. After the goodbyes, the whole team came on to the court to thank their fans and present the trophy to them once more. The players took a few laps of honour around the court and then joined the fans at the fan party, where 1,000 people were waiting to collect autographs and take photographs with their heroes.
