Spanish women's team capitalises on efficient training camp

The Spanish women’s beach handball team will travel to the 2013 European Beach Handball Championship in Randers (Denmark) intending to improve on the 6th place they reached at the 2011 final tournament in Umag (Croatia).

Dani Lara, head coach of the squad, told eurohandball.com that a training camp carried out in Pinto in the Madrid region already  paid off.

"We have trained for eight hours a day, but always tried not to tire the girls too much. All of them have shown a really dedicated attitude towards the project."

He added that he was surprised by the level of the game his players were able to show.

"We have a nice mix of veterans and young players. It has been very tough to discard five players, as they all had interesting skills, so they will be taken into account for future activities.

"I have not selected any universal players as I prefer polyvalent ones, so the importance of that position is to be shared among three or four women."

Three big rivals and one minimum goal

Lara has been trying to find out as much as possible about the six opponents Spain will face in group B of the preliminary round – sometimes without too much success.

"It is very difficult to get current videos of the opponents, as the rotation index for newcomers in every team is just too high."

"Considering the level of this tournament, Spain must try to be to qualify directly for the next Beach Handball World Championship, but then you need to be among the four best squads and that will be tough.

"In any case I see Denmark, Russia and Hungary as the big rivals."
