Women's EHF Champions League winner holds international handball camp

Lekić inspires the next generation

Some of the Europe’s top handball stars spent their summer break working with the next generation of players at various camp projects.

One of them was the Serbian national team captain and Women’s EHF Champions League winner in Gyor, Andrea Lekić, who organised a youth camp in the beautiful Serbian Spa resort of Vrnjačka Banja.

Over 100 kids from Serbia, Hungary, FYR Macedonia, Norway, Austria, Israel and Denmark, enjoyed ten days of handball and various activities with Andrea and her team.

“I still remember the moment when I decided to organise this Camp. I think that all handball players have to work more on the promotion of our sport.

“I want to show my own example and prove that it is possible to help the younger handball generation with this kind of project.

“It wasn’t easy to take responsibility of 100 kids, but after ten days with my coaching team, I have to say that this was one of the best decisions I’ve made in my sports career.

“The satisfaction is so huge and from this point of view, I think that I have decided what I will do after my playing career.

“I want to repeat everything next year, to watch a lot of smiles and feel the joy and happiness in working with the kids again,” Lekić explained to ehfCL.com.

International flavour

The international background of the “Andrea Lekić Camp” made one of Serbia’s most popular athletes even more joyful.

“Despite the language barriers, the atmosphere was fantastic. It was so emotional that we saw some tears on the last day.

“We gave a lot of energy and support to the kids; they knew how to react and gave us feedback.

“Every second in the hall or hotel was worth it at the end, even I make some progress handball wise, I am totally psychically fit for the new season with my new team,” concluded Andrea, who began preparation with ZRK Vardar SCBT, just three days after the camp ended.

Lekić had strong support from her teammates Katarina Tomašević (Serbian national team goalkeeper) and Jovanka Radičević (Györ and ZRK Vardar SCBT – right wing) during the camp. One of the coaches was former Great Britain and current Israeli national team head coach Dragan Djukić.
