MATCH REVIEW: The qualification round 1 of the Men's EHF Cup has been completed as the last pairing played their both legs over Monday and Tuesday. Israeli champions emerged as the winners.


Maccabi Tyrec Tel Aviv last team to reach Round 2

Maccabi Tyrec Tel Aviv are the last team to reach Qualification Round 2 of the Men's EHF Cup. Israeli squad defeated twice the Montenegrin team of Lovćen in the matches played in Raanana Municipial hall.

They joined nine more teams from Round 1 - Sporta Hlohovec, Klaipeda Dragunas, Fyllingen Bergen, Grundfos Tatabánya, Haukar Hafnarfjördur, BB Ankara Spor, Bregenz Handball, HC Brest Meshkov and HBC Ronal Jičín.

On Monday, Maccabi Tyrec Tel Aviv won the first leg 37:35 (20:16), in the totally attacking game by both sides. The host were in front by six goals in the second half, but the team from Cetinje managed to reduce the deficit to two goals and keep alive the chances to go into the next round.

But Maccabi didn't let Montenegrin champions to change the fate of the first game, and won also the second clash by 30:29 (16:11). Led by Serbian player Bojan Butulija, Israeli team finished to story at the half time, because they were infront by six goal. Lovćen only managed again to get an honorable defeat...

Bojan Butulija was the key player for Maccabi in those games, scoring totally 24 goals, his compatriot Novak Bošković added 14 (7+7) and Renan Landsman 11 (7+4). Captain Igor Marković was Lovćen's top scorer in the first game with 9 goals, while Milan Popović was the best in the Montenegrian team in second game with 8 goals.

Maccabi Tyrec Tel Aviv will play Macedonian side HC Zomimak. The first leg of the second round is scheduled for 12-13 October, the second leg will follow one week later.
