Nadgornaja breaks hand, will miss qualification

Germany's women's national team has suffered a blow to their preparations for the Women's EHF EURO 2014 Qualification Matches against Russia (23 and 27 October 2013).

The team will definitely have to replace left back Nadja Nadgornaja who broke her right hand during a training session with her club, Thüringer HC, on Wednesday.

The 42-time international will undergo surgery already on Friday.

"I'm very sorry. That's bad news for Thüringer HC as well as for us," national team head coach Heine Jensen was quoted on the German Handball Federation's website.

While Nadgornaja will definitely be out for the two matches against Russia, Jensen hopes that the 25-year-old will recover in time for the World Championship 2013 in December in Serbia.

Jensen has to cope with several changes in his team's roster as team captain Isabell Klein and goalkeeper Katja Schülke are both pregnant and will not be available. Furthermore Lone Fischer, who is among Jensen's wider selection of players, ruptured he cruciate ligament some days ago.

"The matches against Russia will now be even more of a challenge, but we believe in our team and want to collect as many points as possible," Jensen said.
