Spain record second win in EHF EURO QualificationWithin only 48 hours Spain have taken their second clear victory in Group 4 of the Women’s EHF EURO 2014 Qualification. After beating Turkey on home court 28:11 on Thursday, the 2012 Olympic Games bronze medalists once again only conceded eleven goals against Italy and scored 27 this time. Group 4: Italy –Spain 11:27 (6:13) Thanks to their 27:11 (13:6) victory against Italy Spain currently top the table of Group 4. Italy were once more taught a lesson in international handball after they had lost 13:28 against Netherlands on Wednesday. The Spanish defence stood strong in the first half, allowing the hosts to score only six goals. After only 17 minutes had been played the deal was virtually sealed, as Spain were ahead 9:2 and kept this distance until the break. In the 50th minute the distance was double-figured for the first time at 20:10, the final result also marked the biggest margin of the match. Should Netherlands – as it can be expected – win on Sunday against Turkey, the wheat would already be separated from the chaff after only one third of all qualification matche have been played in Group 4. Best scorers were Irene Fanton, who scored four times for Italy, and Elisabeth Pinedo who netted seven times for Spain. TEXT: Björn Pazen / ts |
