Boldsen says goodbye at the top

NEWS REPORT: Danish handball stalwart and KIF Kolding Kobenhavn defensive specialist announces retirement at the end of this season

Boldsen says goodbye at the top

One of the most colourful and popular players in Danish handball, Joachim Boldsen, will bring an end to his career at the end of the current season, after more than 15 years in top level handball.

In the summer of 2012, Joachim Boldsen was part of creating the new team KIF Kolding København, the team he has been playing for since then. When his current contract expires at the end of this season, though, the 35-year-old backcourt player and defensive specialist will bring an end to his long career.

Important in more than one way

Boldsen, who played 186 internationals for Denmark, has always said that he was going to stop at the top, on Thursday he announced that the time to say goodbye has now come.

“It is a fantastic player and a fine person we are saying goodbye to after this season. He was part of establishing this team, so he has been important to us in more than one way.

“A player like him will not be easy to replace, but as he has given us such a long warning, we have good time to find his successor,” KIF Kolding København director Jens Boesen told ehfCL.com.

Apart from KIF Kolding København, Joachim Boldsen has represented top European clubs such as FC Barcelona, SG Flensburg-Handewitt and AG København. He has been German as well as Danish champion, while he was also part of the Danish national team who became EHF EURO champions for the first time in 2008.
