While the sold-out crowd of 14,000 spectators in Herning's Jyske Bank Boxen celebrated a 29:21 win of the defending champions over Macedonian team, the reigning world champions Spain defeated Hungary 34:27 in Aalborg's Gigantium.
In the first match of Group B and of the whole tournament Iceland gained both points in the Nordic derby with Norway (31:26) as Aaron Palmarsson scored the first goal of the tournament but had to leave the court after he had injured his ankle.
