NEWS REPORT: Severe blow for VELUX EHF Champions League participants ahead of group phase match against HK DROTT Halmstad

Meniscus injury rules out Flensburg's Nenadic for at least six weeks

Two days out of the their VELUX Champions League Group Phase encounter against HK DROTT Halmstad on Saturday (17:00 hrs), SG Flensburg-Handewitt are faced with the task to replace Drasko Nenadic.

The Serbian left back was injured in the German Bundesliga match against Rhein-Neckar Löwen (23:27) on Wednesday, and medical checks on Thursday confirmed that Nenadic has ruptured a meniscus in his left knee.

The necessery operation will already take place on Friday.

"First and foremost we wish and hope for Drasko's quick recovery so that he will be back with the team from mid-March onwards," said Flensburg manager Dierk Schmäschke.

"The team will do his best to compensate his absence. That's necessary as we'll have matches every three days in all three competitions (domestic league, national cup, VELUX EHF Champions League) in February and March."

Nenadic's injury puts further strain on Flensburg's back court options as left back Lars Kaufmann is still in the process of recovery, while Olafur Gustafsson joined training again on Monday following an ankle injury.
