Sigurdsson signs for Barcelona
Icelandic international Gudjon Valur Sigurdsson is FC Barcelona’s first big name signing of the summer, moving from fellow VELUX EHF FINAL4 participants THW Kiel on a two-year contract according to the Spanish club’s official website. 34-year-old Sigurdsson was one of the star performers for Kiel in Cologne, scoring 11 goals over the two games and consistently punishing opponents on fast breaks. After leaving Iceland, the left wing spent the vast majority of his career in Germany; with a one-year stint at AG Kobenhavn in 2011/12 the only move away until now. Sigurdsson’s transfer comes in the wake of Juanin Garcia’s departure from Barcelona and he is the second THW Kiel player this summer to move to another FINAL4 club, as right back Christian Zeitz is set for MKB-MVM Veszprem.
