Handball websites start #wearehandball campaign at season beginning

With the beginning of the 2014/15 season, four major handball websites, handball-world.com, hbold.dk, handball-planet.com and handnews.fr, have joined forces and launched a social media campaign, involving the hashtag #wearehandball.

From today (29 August) until 7 September handball fans around the world are asked to post a handball photo or video on social media sites such as Twitter and Facebook, hashtagging the posts with #wearehandball.

"The hashtag #wearehandball will be used to show how large the international fan following of this sport is," a report on handball-world.com reads.

"All users of social media, such as Twitter or Facebook are called upon to show their passion for handball with a photo of their choice, whether that is a picture with players, their favourite team shirt or wether it shows themselves in action."

The ten days chosen for the campaign include several high-profile matches across Europe.

On the first weekend of September the qualifcation throws off in the VELUX EHF Champions League and the Men's EHF Cup.

Among other games VELUX EHF FINAL4 participants MKB-MVM Veszprem face EHF Cup winners Pick Szeged in the Hungarian Supercup (31 August), in Denmark the season starts and in France the Champions Trophy is played among the top four teams from the last season (6/7 September).

Furthermore the "Tag des Handballs" takes place at the football arena in Frankfurt, Germany on 6 September. The handball festival, including the Bundesliga match between Rhein-Neckar Löwen and HSV Hamburg, is set to set a spectator world record for handball matches with 37,000 tickets already being sold.

The current record stands at 36,651 for the Danish league final in 2011 between AG Kobenhavn and Bjerringbro-Silkeborg.
