GROUP D MATCH REVIEW: Swiss champions recorded a VELUX EHF Champions League win after 20 months.

Liniger leads Kadetten to their first win

Manuel Liniger scored eight goals and Kadetten Schaffhausen celebrated their first win in the VELUX EHF Champions League since 7 February 2013 as the Swiss team defeated Dunkerque HB Grand Littoral 25:23 in a Group D match on Thursday.

Kadetten Schaffhausen (SUI) vs Dunkerque HB Grand Litoral (FRA) 25:23 (12:10)

The French champion started the game in better shape as it seemed that Dunkerque’s win at Zaporozhye last weekend put the team back on track. However it soon turned out that it was no miracle that Kadetten drew in the last round at Aalborg, who won at Dunkerque in the first match.

Patrick Cazal’s men took the lead but before the end of the first half the Swiss outfit took over and lead by two goals at the break. Manuel Liniger had an excellent game, the veteran left winger scored from all angles while the visitors relied on goals scored by Pierre Soudry.

Schaffhausen threatened to win by a greater margin but Dunkerque, who seemingly had run out of steam somehow fought back and minimised the margin to two goals, which may come handy when the reverse fixture comes. The Swiss team rocketed to third place in the group while Dunkerque, who play host to Kielce in the next round, fell to fifth.
