Founder of the Irish Olympic Handball Association passes away

The EHF reports with sadness the passing away Lindsay Pennycook, founder of the Irish Olympic Handball Association, on Monday 3 November 2014.

Former Great Britain international Pennycook introduced handball to Ireland in 1973 after moving to Dublin to work as a Physical Education teacher. He also established the Irish Olympic Handball Association in 1975.

In 1980 Pennycook authored the first English language training manual for handball with Robin Sykes - Olympic Handball, The Complete Training Guide for Teachers and Coaches. It was specifically written for those new to handball and was an important contribution to the development of the sport in Ireland.

The EHF would like to pass on its condolences and thoughts to family and friends. A full tribute to Lindsay Pennycook can be read on the Irish Olympic Handball Association website.
