Györ celebrate new arena with big win
It took Györi Audi ETO some time to really get their engines running when they hosted IK Sävehof on Sunday in the last round of the Women's EHF Champions League, but in the second half the home side overwhelmed their adversaries to take a 12-goal win.
Györ were assured a first-place finish on the Group C table following their fourth win two weeks ago against Viborg, but the question of points for the main round still made Sunday’s game important for both teams. When the whistle signaled the end of the first 30 minutes, Györ were leading by two.
From the start of the second half, Györ intensified their pace in both defence and attack. Throughout the second 30 minutes the home team increased their lead constantly, ultimately creating a 12-goal gap that earned them the two points.
Györ take eight points with them to the main round, while Sävehof take just one from the group matches. TEXT: Peter Bruun / cg |
