Friday's action will start with a 5th place match between Hungary and France. Spain stunned Denmark with an impressive 29:22 win eliminating one of the heaviest favourites from the medal race and finishing on the second place in Group I in Debrecen. Norway lost their first two points in the tournament at hands of Hungary (25:29) in the last match in the Fönix Arena. Montenegro clinched the first spot in Group II after a thrilling 30:29 win over Sweden, who suffered their first defeat at the championship despite leading by five goals at the half-time. This result virtually decided that both France and the Nethelands played only for the 3rd place in the group in the last EHF EURO 2014 match in Croatia (20:18). Following Russia, Ukraine, Croatia and Serbia's exits after preliminary round six more teams are leaving the tournament in a following order: 7. Netherlands, 8. Denmark, 9. Romania, 10. Germany, 11.
