Norway meet Spain in the final

NEWS REPORT: Spaniards sprang another surprise as they eliminated the defending champions in the semi-final.

Norway meet Spain in the final

Six years after the Women's EHF EURO 2008 in Skopje, Norway and Spain will face each other again to battle out the European title in the final on Sunday (18:00). In their Friday's semi-finals in the Budapest Papp Laszlo Sportarena Spain knocked out the defending champions from Montenegro, while Norway prevailed in the Scandinavian clash with Sweden 29:25.

18 saves of goalkeeper Silvia Navarro were the key to the second Spanish final berth at a Women's EHF EURO event.

After beating Germany in 2008 in the semi-finals at the European Championship in FYR Macedonia, this time they crushed the hopes of current champions Montenegro for a successful title defence with a narrow 19:18 (13:8) victory in Budapest on Friday.

Norway could also rely on a strong performance of their goalkeeper as Silje Solberg made several crucial saves on her team's way to the gold medal match. The record winners of the EHF EURO led from the very start of the game and never allowed their rivals to tie the score.

France took fifth spot in the final ranking of the EHF EURO 2014 with a 26:25 (16:13) win over Hungary in a rollercoaster match in Budapest on Friday.
They held the upper hand through most of the game, but a late scoring run from Hungary meant the home side came very close to almost taking the win.
