Kim Andersson quits Swedish national team

NEWS REPORT: One of the biggest stars in Swedish handball at present has played his last international match

Kim Andersson quits Swedish national team

32-year-old right back Kim Andersson has called time on his international career with Sweden.

He announced his decision after Sweden were sent out of the World Championship by Poland on Monday.

His decision is not due to the 24:20 defeat which ended their run in Qatar, but due to his on-going shoulder problems which recently forced to a 16-month break from handball.

Andersson has announced the end of his international career twice before, in 2010 and 2012, but this time he indicated that it is for real. His left shoulder caused him problems at the World Championship and has caused him to make up his mind.

“This should have been the tournament to show I was completely fit after my injury break, but my shoulder did not stand for it,” Kim Andersson told several Scandinavian media after the match against Poland.

Kim Andersson has been one of Sweden’s greatest handball stars in recent years and after his comeback from his long injury break the former THW Kiel player has been a great asset to his current club KIF Kolding Kobenhavn.

The powerful left-handed back court player has played a significant part in KIF leading the Danish league and lying second in their VELUX EHF Champions League group.

His contract with KIF is due to expire after the current season and it is yet unknown what the next step in his career will be.
