100 days to go to the 2015 EHF Cup Finals
The countdown to the 2015 EHF Cup Finals in Berlin hit a big milestone on Thursday.
In exactly 100 days, the four best teams of the Men’s EHF Cup will descend on the Max Schmeling Halle in the German capital to battle it out for the second most prestigious trophy in the men’s club handball.
On Saturday 16 May the two semi-finals will be played, followed by the third place match and the final on Sunday 17 May. The Hungarian powerhouse Pick Szeged clinched the trophy in the second edition of the EHF Cup Finals.
The tournament’s host Füchse Berlin, who also staged the tournament last year, can skip the quarter-final stage if they win their Group C or if they finish as one of the best three second ranked teams in the upcoming group phase.
If Füchse finish as the worst second ranked team, they will have to play the quarter-finals. Any worse placement will eliminate Foxes from the hunt, but they will still organise the tournament.
The European Handball Federation announced Berlin as the EHF Cup Finals host only on Monday, but the club wasted no time in the preparation as on the very same day the ticket sale had been launched.
"It is a big honour for us that we have been trusted with the organisation of this event again. Now we have to fulfil the high standards we set last year," says Füchse’s Stefan Güter, who is in charge of the tournament’s organisation.
"Already from Wednesday we accepted applications from volunteers for various positions in the organisational staff. Only with the help of many of our partners and over 100 volunteers will we be able to stage such an important event,” Güter added.
The hosts have already also launched the official website www.berlinfinals.de which provides information on the tournament both in German and English.
