Women's EHF Champions League Group 2
Viborg HK (DEN) vs HCM Baia Mare (ROU) 30:31 (12:13)
After a close match HCM Baia Mare boosted their quarter-final dreams, as they doubled their number of points from two to four through a narrow win in Viborg Stadionhal.
Compared to their previous match, which they lost 31:18 away against Larvik with only eight fit players, Viborg had 11 players on their team sheet this Sunday.
This was enough to give the home team the better start with several three-goal leads, but after 21 minutes Baia Mare caught up (8:8) and four minutes later the visitors took their first lead at 11:10.
At the break, the Romanian team was still leading by one goal after a half which was dominated by Viborg for the greater part.
The second half became a close affair, in which the gap between the teams was never more than two goals, and the decisive moment came in the last minute, when Viborg were forced into a long-range shot to equalise.
"We can be proud of our performance. Of course, we are frustrated by losing, but we still live on in this tournament,” Viborg coach Christian Dalmose told Danish TV after the match.
Viborg are still third in the group, one point ahead of Metz Handball and Baia Mare.
