Hamburg take second win in SwitzerlandHSV Hamburg are on top of Group A in the Men’ s EHF Cup after winning the first match of the second round 26:22 away against Pfadi Winterthur on Wednesday night
Men’s EHF Cup Group A The midweek highlight saw two teams who won their first match in the group phase meet in Switzerland and it was the home side Pfadi Winterthur who got off to a fine start in the Eulachhalle and took an early 5:3 lead. However, it did not take Hamburg long to take over the initiative. Five goals in row changed the two goal deficit into a three goal lead at 8:5. That lead was extended to five at 11:6 and remained that way until half-time with HSV holding the 14:9 advantage. Hamburg seemed to be going to decide the match early into the second period, taking a six-goal lead at 15:9 and 16:10, but the hosts came back and reduced the deficit to only one goal at 18:17. This proved to be as close as Winterthur would come to winning the points, howeve, and HSV managed to increase their lead to four goals again. The 2013 VELUX EHF Champions League winners then held on to that lead until the final buzzer and now hold a two-point advantage at the top of their group. TEXT: Peter Bruun / cor |
