Holstebro alone on top of Group B
Through their two goal win in Russia on Monday evening, Team Tvis Holstebro went alone on top of Group B of the Men's EHF Cup. With seven points after four matches, the Danish team is two points ahead of Fraikin BM Granollers in second position. St. Petersburg HC (RUS) vs Team Tvis Holstebro (DEN) 30:32 (12:14) Team Tvis Holstebro took a major step towards the quarter-finals on Monday evening, as the Danish team won by two goals away against St. Petersburg. St. Petersburg had a small upper hand for the first 18 minutes, being two goals up most of the time. However, five Danish goals in a row changed 9:7 for the home team into 12:9 for the visitors and made St. Petersburg coach Dmitri Torgovanov take a timeout with seven minutes left of the first half. At first, this did not help the famous former Russian international's team, as Holstebro increased to 13:9. However, three Russian goals in succession brought the hosts closer at 12:13, before Holstebro's top scorer Michael Damgaard made it 14:12 at half-time for the guests. It did not take St. Petersburg long to catch up at 15:15, though, and in the high-scoring second half, both teams had their leads, before the visitors finally took a decisive three goal lead at 32:29 shortly before the final buzzer. With 11 and ten goals, left back Michael Damgaard and right wing Patrick Wiesmach both played a major part in the Holstebro's success. TEXT: Peter Bruun / br |
