Win in Hungary sends Eskilstuna to quarter-final

MATCH REVIEW: 25:23 win away against Balatonfüredi enough for Eskilstuna to qualify

Win in Hungary sends Eskilstuna to quarter-final

With their 25:23 win in Hungary against Balatonfüredi KSE, Eskilstuna Guif have made it to the quarter-finals from the group phase in the Men’s EHF Cup.

For the second season in succession, the quarter-finals of the Men's EHF Cup will have a Swedish participant.

Eskilstuna Guif are following in the footsteps of Lugi HF who reached the quarter-final last year.

GROUP D

Balatonfüredi KSE (HUN) vs Eskilstuna Guif (SWE) 23:25 (11:8)

When Eskilstuna had their first showing at the EHF Cup group phase two years ago, they did not manage to win a single point. That has changed this season, to say the least.

The win against Balatonfüredi in the Veszprem Arena on Friday evening brought Eskilstuna to eight points and secured their quarter-final berth from second position in Group D.

After a first half with changing leads, Balatonfüredi took a three goal lead with them into the dressing rooms at half-time, but it did not take the visitors long to change that pattern after the break.

Eskilstuna came out and put their foot on the gas and found themselves leading by six goals several times in the second half.

Balatonfüredi scoring the last four goals of the match did little to hinder the Swedish side’s win as they closed out the game with a two-goal win.

Zdolik and Ivancsik both netted six for the Hungarian side, while Daniel Pettersson was best for the winning side with eight goals to his name.
