The new trophy is shaping upIt is a little less than a month ago that Hungarian artists Krisztián Ádám's and Balázs Sipos' concept for a new Women's EHF Champions League trophy was awarded - and this has kept them busy ever since. Right after the competition, which had been launched by the European Handball Federation, EHF Marketing and the Moholy-Nagy University of Art and Design Budapest (MOME), the two artists went into production mode. At the draw for the MVM EHF FINAL4 on 14 April the new trophy will be presented to the public for the first time, and there is plenty to do until then for Ádám's and Sipos as shown on the pictures by MOME photographer Gergő Gosztom who has been following the two artists for the entire production process.
There are a lot of tools that Krisztián Ádám and Balázs Sipos use in the process, including hammer and gouge. "We would like to create an object which draws up the essence of this sport," say the two hungarian artists.
Krisztián Ádám carefully abrades overhanging pieces of the trophy's top. c Both artists are showing a meticulous eye for details as it is their declared aim to create a trophy that shows a new face from every angle.
Balázs Sipos grinds the trophy's middle part into shape
The final shape of this piece of art is vaguely recognisable by now. Sipos says: "The emotional waves occuring during the game, the femininity were also decisive factors in creating the trophy."
Balázs Sipos applies a special lacquer to the trophy.
Krisztián Ádám works on the trophy's inner core, cutting it to the right length.
The trophy's base - it will take another month until we eventually know on 10 May in which trophy cabinet it will appear.
It will definitely be a women's team - just which one remains to be seen. TEXT: EHF / me / ts |
