OFFICIAL STATEMENT: Although the observation of the delegate was not correct, it was a factual decision of referees, which cannot be a subject to any protest.

Court of Handball rejects Benfica's protest

The EHF Court of Handball has reached a decision following a protest lodged by SL Benfica after the second leg match of the Men's Challenge Cup semi-final SL Benfica (POR) vs Handball club Odorhei (ROU) which took place on 19 April 2015.

The club argued that the EHF delegate had made a mistake by interrupting the match and informing the EHF referees that SL Benfica had an additional player on the playing court which led to a two-minute suspension to be imposed on the n°13 of SL Benfica.

The EHF Court of Handball has found that although the observation of the situation made by the EHF delegate was not correct and thereby his recommendation to the EHF referees either, the EHF Court of Handball finds that the decision subsequently taken by the EHF referees falls under the scope of articles 6.3 of the EHF Legal Regulations and 8.3 of the European Cup Regulations and shall be regarded as a factual and thus final decision not being subject to any protest.

The protest is therefore rejected as inadmissible.
