Belgium set for second win in EHF EURO 2018 Qualification

PREVIEW: Belgium and Cyprus meet for their EHF EURO 2018 Qualification match on Saturday – an easy-win game for Belgium it seems, but Cyprus count on their one star's scoring prowess

Belgium set for second win in EHF EURO 2018 Qualification

Belgium will be looking for another two points to place them firmly at the top of the group table alongside Greece in Group A when they host Cyprus on Saturday.

Group A: Belgium vs. Cyprus / Saturday 2 May, 20:00 hrs in Herstal

After beginning their EHF EURO 2018 Qualification campaign with a strong win (26:17) in their first-leg game against Cyprus on Wednesday, Belgium enter Saturday’s re-match as the favourites.

Cyprus went down fighting but Wednesday’s game belonged to Belgium, who led from start to finish.

The pressure for Cyprus will be on their perennial highest scorer, Julios Argyrou. Argyrou hit the back of the net 10 times on Wednesday and was the top scorer of the match.

But one star is rarely enough to beat a team, and it is doubtful Argyrou’s efforts will be enough to take the two points for Cyprus.

Being on zero points after three matches, all chances for Cyprus to advance to the intermediate qualification play-offs have already vanished into thin air.

If Belgium take the two points, the final two matches between them and Greece in June will decide which team progresses, as only the group winners advance to the next qualification stage.
