Nagy: We are worthy contenders

BLOG: Veszprem right back and inspirational leader looks back on a remarkable season and hopes to cap it off in glorious style this weekend at the VELUX EHF FINAL4

Nagy: We are worthy contenders

Hi everyone!

How have you been doing? I hope you are fine apart from sitting on the edge of your seat and can’t wait to witness the ultimate handball experience in Cologne. I know I am!

Can a great season get even better?

It has been a great year and I can’t wait to give my all to end it with a huge boom. We have just won the Hungarian championship and having already defended our title in the Hungarian Cup, we are invincible in our home land for three years.

We managed to win two games in Szeged, one in the regular season and one in the finals, which is a great achievement. I know most supporters considered us as heavy favourites against Szeged but if you need convincing how hard it is to beat our domestic rivals in their own arena just ask the superstars of Rhein-Neckar Löwen and THW Kiel, who left Szeged empty-handed.

We are in good shape and can’t wait to lock horns with our long-time nemesis, THW Kiel. Two years ago they knocked us out in the quarter-finals, last year in the semi-finals, but this time we are prepared to break the pattern.

Hardships: overcome

I believe this year the four strongest teams made it to Cologne. We were lucky enough to test our might against prestigious opponents such as Vardar, PSG and Rhein-Neckar Löwen, and I think it is safe to say that we have proved to be worthy contenders to finally conquer the throne of European handball.

Think about it: we won the most difficult group of the VELUX EHF Champions League, were crowned undefeated champions in Hungary and also won the SEHA League in the first year we entered the competition. Plus we are already in the FINAL4 so the race to win in all competitions is still on.

Mind you, we only lost two games this entire season. And let me assure you, we are still hungry for more!

The best game so far

We have played some great matches this season. I loved the game we won in Skopje but unfortunately I was sidelined due to an injury that kept me out of action for two months, and the fact that we remained unbeaten in our duel with PSG gives me pride. But I think the best game we played this season was in the last round of the group phase of the VELUX EHF Champions League in Montpellier.

Can we play even better than in France? Only time will tell but I am confident we will give our all in Cologne to finally make it to the top. Will you be there? Or are you going to watch it on TV? No matter, expect a great show and top drawer action.

I am looking forward to seeing you there in the jam-packed LANXESS arena!

Until then enjoy yourself and stay cool!

Yours,

Laci
