Czech Republic win, but Netherlands celebrate

The Netherlands have qualified for the Women's World Championship in Denmark in December despite losing their second leg play-off match to Czech Republic 23:25.

The Dutch women were able to afford the two-goal defeat in Most on Saturday as they had won the first leg 33:23 last weekend.

A five-goal lead 20:15 in the middle of the second half was the closest the home team got to catching up with the ten-goal deficit from the first match.

The Czechs were leading from the start and were four goals up a few times in the first half, but the visitors reduced the gap to one goal at half-time (11:10).

In the second half the Czechs continued to be in the lead and after 15 minutes they were actually leading by five goals at 20:15.

However, nine minutes later Debbie Bont equalised at 20:20, and in the end the hosts had to be satisfied with just winning the game.

Lois Abbingh scored six goals for the Netherlands, while Iveta Luzumova scored five times for the Czech Republic.
