Perfect start for Spanish hosts to Junior European Beach Handball Championships

There seemed to be no pressure to deliver at all for the Spanish junior teams when the Men's and Women's 19 European Beach Handball Championships threw off in Lloret de Mar on Friday.

On the event's first day the Spanish under-19 men's as well as the women's team enjoyed a perfect start, recording two from two victories in their first matches.

The Spanish women's team beat Romania and Switzerland 2:0 in Group B and are already assured of a place in the semi-finals together with Russia who also won their first two matches.

In Group A nothing is decided yet, with Germany topping the table after two wins (against Turkey and Slovakia) and one loss (against Hungary), equal on points with defending champions Hungary who won their two matches (against Slovakia and Germany).

The situation looks very much similar in the men's event at which Spain and Russia enjoy an unassailable lead in Group B and secured already their semi-final berth after having won two matches each.

In Group A Croatia and Hungary are unbeaten with four points after two matches, while Turkey and Portugal have won and lost one match each.

The preliminary and the main round continue on Saturday, while the bronze medal match and the final will be played on Sunday.

All matches from the main court will be streamed live and the EHF live ticker is also available.
