Veszprém part ways with Carlos Ortega

NEWS REPORT: VELUX EHF Champions League runners-up officially announce the termination of Carlos Ortega’s contract. Assistant coach Javier Sabaté takes over as interim coach.

Veszprém part ways with Carlos Ortega

Carlos Ortega is no longer the coach of Veszprém the club announced on their official website. Ortega learned about the decision after the VELUX EHF Champions League first round match in Plock but it only became official on Monday morning.

Last season’s finalists began their season with a draw in Plock, which was considered to be the last straw for the management, who immediately informed Carlos Ortega he was no longer coach of the team.

The Spanish coach took over Veszprém from Lajos Mocsai in 2012, since his arrival he won all Hungarian trophies available (three championships, three Hungarian cups and two supercups), led Veszprém to victory in their first SEHA League season and reached the final of Europe’s top flight in 2015.

The short announcement on the club’s official site contains the mere facts and that assistant coach Javier Sabaté will be interim coach until a long-term solution is found. Veszprém wish good luck to their former coach.
