Double draw sees Vogosca advance to Round 3 of Men’s Challenge CupThe fact that HC Vogosca Poljine Hills scored 29 goals away in their first leg against MSK Povazska Bystrica last week turned out to be crucial and just enough for them. After the first match in Slovakia had ended 29:29, the second leg’s final result on Saturday was another draw, but the 22:22 meant that Vogosca would advance to Round 3 of the Men's Challenge Cup. Last season’s finalists, ABC/UMinho had considerably fewer troubles qualifying for Round 3. The Portuguese team absolutely dominated this weekend’s double header against Ruislip Eagles, winning the first game 51:18 on Saturday and the second 46:19 on Sunday. The second English side in the competition also bowed out. Leeds Hornets HC 2011 did not sting in Turkey, where they were defeated 43:24 and 50:23 by Bursa Nilüfer BK. Another double header played this weekend was a more equal affair. In Russia, SKIF Krasnodar played A.C. Filippos Verias from Greece who won the first leg on Saturday 35:29. However, this was not enough for the visitors to feel secure, as in the second game on Sunday Krasnodar won 31:26, and eventually A.C. Filippos Verias only advanced with a one goal win on aggregate. In one of the ties that were not decided in a double header, AO Poseidon Loutrakiou had only brought a 26:23 lead with them to Estonia from the first leg. This turned out to be enough for the Greek team, though, as Viljandi HC only won 24:23 at home. TEXT: Peter Bruun / ts |
