Rostov-Don top Group A with big win

Rostov-Don are alone at the top of Group A after their Round 2 win in the Women's EHF Champions League.

After their 35:25 win at home against RK Krim Mercator on Saturday afternoon, the Champions League debutants from Russia are the only undefeated team in the group.

GROUP A:
Rostov-Don (RUS) vs RK Krim Mercator (SLO) 35:25 (16:12)

After HCM Baia Mare's 31:29 defeat at home against Larvik on Friday evening, Rostov-Don had the opportunity to go it alone at the top of Group A, with a win at home against Krim.

The Russian Champions League debutants used that opportunity fully, as they securely defeated the Slovenian champions in the Palace of Sport in Rostov-Don.

The home team were in control throughout the match, in which the score was only equal until 2:2.

From that point, Rostov-Don took the lead and continued to increase their lead almost constantly for the rest of the match.

It did not take long for the hosts to get four goals ahead and which was also the goal difference at half-time.

A man-to-man defence from Krim, on left back Ekaterina Ilina, who did not help the visitors as other Rostov players were ready to take over.

Rostov-Don increased their lead in the second half and particularly in the last quarter of an hour, in which the hosts doubled their lead from five goals to ten at the end.

The Ukrainian right wing Iuliia Managarova scored nine goals on nine attempts for Rostov-Don, who are now at four points, while Macedonian left back Mirjeta Bajramoska scored six times for Krim who are still at zero points.
