GROUP D REVIEW: Skjern Handbold inch closer to the play-offs with a home win against Elverum.

Skjern Handbold are alone in second position in Group D with two matches left after winning the Scandinavian derby at home against Elverum Handball Herrer.

The win means that Skjern are on 11 points and need two points in each of their last two matches to be completely secure in qualification for the Last 16 play-offs.

Skjern were missing both their Norwegian players – line player Bjarte Myrhol had stomach problems, while goalkeeper Magnus Dahl was nursing a knee injury. But that did not keep the home team from winning clearly against a Norwegian team who had nothing at stake.

25 Elverum fans among the 2950 spectators in the Skjern Bank Arena did their utmost to support their team, but the hosts dominated the match from a 3:0 lead at the beginning through to the final whistle.

Skjern were leading by eight goals on several occasions before the visitors managed to reduce the gap towards the end to finish with a smaller score line.

“We lost a bit of our focus in the second half, but I still feel it was a clear win,” Skjern right back Kasper Søndergaard Sarup told Danish TV after the win.

Søndergaard was highest scoring Skjern player together with Morten Balling Christensen and Thomas Klitgaard. All three scored six goals, while Andre Lindboe scored eight for Elverum.
