Verias favourites in Greek derbyThere may be a few thrillers waiting in the Men's Challenge Cup, when the last teams for the Last 16 are to be found this weekend. The Kapa Verias Dimitrios Vikelas in Veria-Thessaloniki is going to be the venue of the second leg of the all Greek derby between A.C.Filippos Verias and A.E.K. Athens.
Having won the first leg on away court 36:34, Filippos Verias definitely have the better odds, when it comes to the chances to proceed to the next round. Neither of the teams have ever been in the Last 16 of any European tournament, so it will obviously be the first time for the overall winner. Berchem have the slightly better odds, as the team from Luxembourg are leading by four goals after winning 32:28 at home last weekend.
However, the Norwegian hosts hope to boost their chances by getting a couple of players fit who were missing in the match in Luxembourg due to injury. Even though WHC Radnicki Kragujevac have had to leave the Women's Cup Winners' Cup, the Serbian city still has a team in Europe. Now, it is the men's team who represent Kragujevac on Friday and Saturday, HC Radnicki Kragujevac have the home advantage against HC Dobrudja from Bulgaria, who will try to reach the first Last 16 berth ever in a
European competition, while the hosts will try to copy their achievement form last season, when they reached exactly the Last 16 of the Challenge Cup. S.L. Benfica, who reached the semi-final of the competition last season, are receiving IBV Vestmannaeyjar from Iceland. The visitors have only played in Europe once before. Last season, they were sent of the EHF Cup in Qualification Round 1. Find all the fixtures of the Men's Challenge Cup Round 3 matches here TEXT: Peter Bruun / br |
