Romania, Austria and Switzerland win their qualifiers by 13 goals each as the qualification to the Men's World Championship 2017 in France continued on Wednesday


Goals galore in Round 3 of World Championship Qualification

There was no shortage of high-scoring wins as the qualification to the Men's World Championship 2017 in France continued on Wednesday.

Austria. Romania and Switzerland won their respective games by no less than 13 goals each and are all still on track for a spot in the play-offs which will be played in June. Only the respective first-ranked team of the six qualification groups qualifies for the play-offs.

In Group 2 Romania recorded a 34:21 away win against Finland, while Austria travelled to Italy and returned home with a 40:27 win. The respective return matches will take place on 9 January (Austria versus Italy) and 10 January (Romania vs Finland).

With Austria on six points and Romania on four, it is likely that the match between the two on 14 January will decide first rank in this group. Austria won the first leg at home 27:24.

In Group 6 Switzerland opened their qualification campaign with a 36:23 away win against Luxembourg. The return match takes place on 9 January. On 13/17 January Switzerland and Netherlands will face for what is likely to be the decisive matches in this group.

In Group 1 Bosnia-Herzegovina held down Kosovo 33:29. The former are now on five points, while Kosovo still wait for their first win. In Group 5 Turkey won at Belgium 31:24.

The qualification for the Men's World Championship 2017 continues today with three matches: Ukraine vs Greece and Cyprus vs Latvia in Group 3 and Lithuania vs Slovakia in Group 1.
