How to build a trophy for the championsThe pairings for the Women’s EHF Champions League Quarter-finals have been decided. The eight teams left in the competition are just two games away from the showpiece Women’s EHF FINAL4 and only four games from the greatest prize in European women’s club handball, the Women’s EHF Champions League trophy. In 2015, Ádám Krisztián and Balázs Sipos, two art teachers from the Moholy-Nagy University of Art and Design Budapest were chosen to create a new trophy for the competition. Last year Montenegrin side Buducnost claimed it, and the trophy probably features prominently among the club’s silverware, but it has been rebuilt by the two talented designers for the 2016 Women’s EHF FINAL4. “The concept was to create an iconic shape that is easily identifiable and incorporates the dynamics of handball,” says Ádám Krisztián. “The ‘tails’ are meant to symbolize the characteristics of the sport, the high number of passes with lot of spatial movement on court. “We wanted to make sure our creation provides an easy association to women’s handball, so we used tight and feminine lines. “The base is made of a modern material called Corian, while the trophy itself consists of nickel-plated red copper. “The size of the precious award meant the biggest challenge for us, as it is one metre tall. This year the making of trophy was way smoother compared to the previous one, despite the slightly revised form – thanks to the routine we acquired last year.” The 2016 Women's EHF FINAL4 takes place on 7/8 May in Budapest and all tickets are valid for both playing days.
