Gran Canaria ready for their first final

SEMI-FINAL REVIEW – Rocasa Gran Canaria reach the Women's Challenge Cup Final after another thriller in their semi-final against EKS Start Elblag.

Gran Canaria ready for their first European final

Rocasa Gran Canaria ACE are looking forward to the first European final in the history of the club after edging EKS Start Elblag in the semi-finals.

Women's EHF Challenge Cup Semi-final, 2nd leg:
Rocasa Gran Canaria (SPA) vs EKS Start Elblag (POL) 22:22 (47:46 on agg.)

After a 25:24 win away against Elblag in the first leg, a 22:22 draw at home Sunday afternoon was enough for the Spanish team to qualify for the final. Kastamonu of Turkey already reached the final last weekend.

The atmosphere was great in an almost full Pabellon Insular Rita Hernandez, where both teams had problems making their attacking play flow against two strong 6-0 defences.

It resulted in a close match with changing leads, especially in the first half, while Gran Canaria were leading by one or two goals for most of the second half.

The home team were even leading by three a couple of times but the visitors caught up again and created an exciting finish.

Towards the end Elblag tried to push up in an aggressive defence but that initiative came too late for the Polish team to change the outcome, and the Spanish side could celebrate their final berth.
