Lisbon the first stop in all-Portuguese final

S.L. Benfica will play the first leg of the Men’s Challenge Cup Final at home to domestic rivals ABC/UMinho.

EHF General Secretary Michael Wiederer and Portuguese Handball Federation President Ulisses Pereira handled proceedings at the shortest draw of the season in Vienna, which was an all-Portguese affair following victories over Norwegian and Czech opposition in the semi-finals.

Following the first encounter on the weekend of 14/15 May, last season’s beaten finalists ABC/UMinho will have an opportunity to go one step further and take the title on home court on the weekend of 21/22 May. The club from Braga lost out last time around 60:57 on aggregate against Romania’s Odorhei.

We are guaranteed a second winner of the competition from Portugal after Sporting Club de Portugal took the title back in 2009/10 with a 54:51 aggregate win over Polish side MMTS Kwidzyn.
